12-26 May: Help! Will my milk supply regulate? (#13)

Happy Monday all! Alexandra here 👋

Lots of good vibes and support coming your way in this edition of the newsletter. We’ve got expert advice to help you take on night weaning, a round-up of (free!) fresh veggie suppliers, and, of course, our regular guide to family-friendly events around town. Scroll down and enjoy the read.

👩‍⚕️ Dear Dr. Mom: My baby has started sleeping through the night. Now I noticed I’m producing less milk overall. My baby seems frustrated at the breast, as if she were expecting more milk. Will my breasts regulate?

First off, congratulations on the big milestone! And it’s natural that you’re noticing a difference: big changes in your baby’s routine can also lead to big changes to your breastfeeding.

Emptying the breasts [at night] is like placing a bulk order for milk the next day. Skip it too often, and your body might just assume you don’t need as much anymore. That said – there’s hope.

We spoke to breastfeeding expert and admin of the Pumping Queens WhatsApp group, Dr. Irena Domachowska, for advice. The take-away? There’s lots you can try before you call it a day. Tap through to find out more.

🥦 Is your child eating veggies, too?

If you have a baby between 4-6 months old and live in Bos en Lommer, you qualify for a free weekly veggie delivery! This city program is designed to introduce children early to fresh veggies, and includes recipe cards, a hand blender, and freezer containers. Ask your OKT team how to sign up.

  • Weekly veggie box from de Stadsgroenteboer

Weekly on Wed or Sat — Various delivery locations or at their farm in Geuzenveld

This local farm CSA in Amsterdam West offers a weekly seasonal veggie box from May to late November (or a 5 week trial)— and they deliver all throughout the city. It’s offered at a sliding scale to make it affordable for all. They also host community activities at the farm: babies and toddlers welcomed.
