13-27 Jan: Banish burnout with an after-work routine (#5)
Happy, happy new year from the Amsterdam Parent Project!
The first issue of 2025 is full of 🔥 as we tackle the topic of stress and burnout. Nearly 65% of parents report burnout symptoms — I’m one of them 🫂 — and it’s not something I expected when I became a parent. I was prepared to look out for signs of postpartum anxiety and depression, but the complete, unshakeable exhaustion that comes with burnout was new to me in the context of parenthood.
Consider this issue and Burnout Brunch APP’s way of starting 2025 with hearts wide open. It’s totally normal to feel stressed and burnt out as a parent. Now it’s time to learn how to sustainably take care of yourself alongside the baby 🫶🏻

👩⚕️ Dear Dr. Mom: How can I be a present parent after a hard day at work?
For this week’s Dear Dr. Mom, we asked the three Burnout Brunch panelists what the community most wanted to know regarding stress and burnout: how to arrive home after a hard work day and make the switch to “give everything to your baby” mode.
“Ease into the transition by focusing on a simple bonding activity like cuddling, singing a song, or sharing a snack. Being fully present with your baby in the first 10-15 minutes after getting home can set a loving tone for the whole evening.”
Psychotherapist Dr. Irena Domachowska and coaches Karla Calinawan and Shelley Janes share examples — more than 10! — of successful after-work routines to keep stress and burnout at bay. Read on to find which rituals resonate with you 👇️
And if you’re keen to ask your own questions, please join us at Burnout Brunch on 25 Jan! You’ll get many more actionable tips for navigating stress and burnout from our experts — as well as from fellow parents going through the same thing 🫂 If you can’t make it, we’d appreciate a share in your parent networks 💗
