Hello, brave families trying to parent in this depressing cold and rain. I see you. I am you. I think the weather is supposed to get better this week?

This week’s mini newsletter shoutout goes to Sasha, the twin girl mom I met on our local playground. In true “Amsterdam is a village” fashion, she knew APP (still wild to me that this keeps happening!) but also knew really good friends of mine from the tech nonprofit where I used to volunteer. Thanks for the lovely conversation on choosing elementary schools, multilingualism, and everything in between ❤️

💬 Announcing: Amsterdam Parent Groups Directory

For a long time, parents in Amsterdam searching for an online community had one of two options: either you had a friend in the relevant group who could give you the invite link, or you got your hands on a Google Sheet with many groups listed — vulnerable to broken invite links and spammers alike. When the folks who created the sheet moved on and away from the Netherlands a few months ago, the responsibility passed to APP to help centralize the process, keep the invite links protected, and make the information available to all. Thus, the Amsterdam Parent Groups Directory was born!

The Directory had a quiet launch just over a month ago while we were still in "build mode" — or at least, that was the intention. Since then, it has spread to over 91 groups and 275 members (and counting!). Safe to say we’re live now 😅 Here are some highlights:

  • See all groups and filter by category and platform

  • “Magic link” access via email: Personal results for you, spammers kept out

  • Group invite link broken? You can report it directly in the Directory!

  • For group admins: Claim groups, edit details, and be notified when there’s a report filed for your group

It’s so rewarding to see this resource actually doing the work of connecting us ❤️ If you're a group admin, come add your group! For others, check it out, find your neighborhood crew, and let me know if you have any feature requests — I’m here 😎

There’s a Sheep Shearing Festival in De Pijp coming!
