22 Sep-6 Oct: A dad's take on building the village (#22)

We’re back — happy Fall today! (And welcome to the 25+ new subscribers since last issue ❤️)

Summer vacation was great, and then wham, Fall arrived. Back to the routines of work, childcare, appointments, pulling out the rain gear and sweaters, indoor play… Everyone doing okay out there?

On APP’s side, the last few weeks have been bonkers in the best way. We started a new Burnout Support Program cohort, got a monthly parent support group proposal approved for the West Begroot voting phase (a chance at city funding!!), and most importantly — we announced that we’re launching our Fourth Trimester Program pilot cohort in October 😍

If you gave birth in August or September (or know someone who did), check out our Fourth Trimester Program for:

  • A peer support group, ready to show up for you: A cozy, safe group of fellow local newborn parents, with organized meetups in person

  • Postpartum experts, without the high cost or hassle: Access to a postpartum coach and psychotherapist at meetups and online

  • The right knowledge, right when you need it: Expert-led content every few weeks that tracks with your & your baby’s development

Despite announcing it only 2 days ago, we already only have a few spots left in our pilot 🥹 Join us now at this reduced pilot rate!

🎙️ Community Spotlight: Markus Appelman

Grateful to be highlighting our first dad in the Spotlight! Markus is an APP volunteer (endless thank you for your automation skills 🙏🏻), but more importantly, he knows all about surviving and thriving with an active toddler. The good: following his little explorer’s lead. The less good: the exhaustion and sleep deprivation that come with it 😝

Don't be ashamed to ask for advice and help from your network. They say it takes a village to raise a child, and in the city you have to create your own village.

Markus Appelman, community dad

I’ve heard anecdotally from a lot of dads (Markus included) that it can be difficult to build a postpartum support network that includes partners/fathers because so much out there is geared towards only moms. Has this been your or your partner's experience? Read on to hear Markus’ experience below 👇🏻
